Learn More About Sophie RyanSophie is a graduate of the New Zealand School of Dance (NZSD) and an ex-professional dancer. Now a dance physiotherapist in Wellington, Sophie has dedicated her career to working in dance performance, dance health and dance education. As well as completing her physiotherapy degree, Sophie undertook an apprenticeship and then worked with Dance Pilates (creators of Movitae) in Auckland for four years, and completed her Progressing Ballet Technique certification in Melbourne, Australia. Sophie is continually undertaking ongoing professional development courses in the dance-specific field. For over a decade, Sophie has taught in private dance schools in Auckland and Wellington, including classical ballet technique, pointe and dance conditioning, with a strong focus on safe dance practice. Sophie was a part of the Health Team at NZSD for five years, during which she held the position of Dance Conditioning tutor, delivered inservices and workshops to staff and students, conducted NZQA level assessments and provided individualized clinical rehabilitation of complex injuries. As a dance physiotherapist, Sophie works with all dancers, from recreational and pre-professional dance students through to dance teachers, and has treated professional dancers who have performed with the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Ballet Collective Aotearoa, Opera Australia, Footnote, Java Dance and the New Zealand Dance Company, as well as freelance artists.
