MakeShift: Aotearoa Dance Podcast
Aimed at dancers in training and teachers working in dance education, MakeShift is an all new dance podcast that explores Aotearoa’s dance industry. Featuring longform interviews with local dancers, choreographers, teachers, dance physiotherapists, pilates instructors, pointe shoe fitters and others working in dance or the arts more broadly, Brave + Bold aims to challenge thinking, and inspire dancers and teachers alike to keep learning and growing.

This project has grown out of a shared passion between teacher and student for more accessible access to information about health, science and wellbeing in dance. We both love dance and want to see the industry grow and diversify but also wish there was more accessible information about it within Aotearoa, so we’ve set out with a big aim - to explore the full spectrum of dance in Aotearoa from health and wellbeing, to teaching practice and training options, developing companies and dance works to the latest in dance science. We know there are awesome people right here in Aotearoa doing amazing things in dance, and we want to find them and share them.
MakeShift is the first podcast of its kind in Aotearoa, and is doubly unique in that it is a collaboration between both student and teacher. Co-hosts Brie Jessen-Vaughan and Chloe Faulkner-Ball are collaborating to bring a dual perspective to MakeShift interviews. We hope that this will help bring different perspectives to topics and broaden the audience of MakeShift. This is a passion project and as such is not a commercial venture. It is supported by Élevé Dance Education for website hosting and shared equipment but we’re doing this because we love dance and want to increase the access to quality information in the dance industry, not because we want to make money.
